Additional Information
Unlike similar species in the marketplace, Red Grandis® is a single species grown on a single large plantation. Therefore, the wood is more consistent in texture, grain and color and there tends to be few knots or other abnormal grain patterns. Eucalyptus grandis are evergreen trees that are plantation grown in Uruguay that grow to be 180 feet tall and 6 feet in diameter. The climate and soil in Uruguay is similar to eastern Australia, where the Eucalyptus grandis are native to. Eucalyptus grandis lumber is a cost-effective alternative to mahogany and Sapele suitable for outdoor furniture, decking, cabinetry and doors.

Red Grandis® is extremely durable – resistant to rot, mold and mildew. Additionally, it is resistant to insect attacks from carpenter ants, termites, powderpost beetles, and the old house borer.

This species is also known for its workability. Its wood is flexible, absorbs glue, stain and finishes well. However, Red Grandis® is susceptible to burns, so use caution when installing near a firepit or grill. The wood machines very well and works well with hand tools. It saws and planes clearly. Screw holding and gluing properties are both good. Its grain quality takes all finishes well. Finishing is recommended, since Red Grandis has a tendency to darken over time when exposed to sunlight.

Red Grandis® is a medium-density wood with good bending properties, low stiffness, and medium strength and shock resistance. We are proud to announce that it is available as FSC-certified species in 4/4”, 5/4”,6/4” and 8/4”. FSC certification ensures that products come from responsibly managed forests that provide environmental, social and economic benefits to the surrounding communities.

Urufor, the company that manages the planation in Uruguay, has been growing Eucalyptus grandis since the 1980s, and today exports Red Grandis® to more than 25 countries. Red Grandis® received the Sequoia New Product Award at the 2011 Association of Woodworking & Furnishing Suppliers convention, for product innovation and leadership in the woodworking industry in the category of Green/Environmental Leadership in raw Materials.
